The EFR Dive Instructor course is based on internationally recognized emergency care guidelines. We will teach you how Teach first aid and CPR skills, offer additional course content and promote expertise through positive coaching techniques.

During the EFRI course we will teach you how to present first aid skills based instruction and increase your knowledge and understanding of first aid treatment.

To register for the EFR Dive Instructor course you must:

  • Hold a First Aid and CPR certification valid within the past 24 months.
  • Age 18 years and over

We run a 2 day EFR dive instructor course.

We have courses scheduled every month as part of our PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC).

We can set the class schedule. Our courses can be arranged for you if they do not match your itinerary on Koh Tao.

EFR Diving Instructor Course Information on Koh Tao

Primary & Secondary Care (EFRI) Teacher Course and EFR Care Children’s Course

Each course consists of four topics:

  • Overview of the curriculum and standards
  • knowledge development
  • Training and skill development
  • Implementation of the simulation

Improving EFR Diving Instructor Knowledge

  • Watch the EFR Primary & Secondary Care and Care for Children explainer videos to familiarize yourself with what students will see.
  • Do the 4 skills and review your diving instructor’s knowledge on the following topics.
    • Program standards
    • human body system
    • Medical emergencies
    • Review of knowledge of child care educators
  • Participate in the following EFR Instructor Trainer presentations:
    • Orientation course for diving instructors
    • Philosophy of Emergency Response Studies
    • Learning and teaching (if not doing IDC)
    • Child Care and CPR & AED Curriculum Standards and Content
    • Emergency Response Course Management
    • Marketing Emergency Response Workshop

EFR Diving Instructor Skills Training and Development

There are 12 compulsory skills and 2 recommended skills that you will teach as part of the EFR Primary & Secondary curriculum.

Basic care skills

EFR training and skills development will be done by one of our EFRI Instructors and include the following skills:

Basic care (CPR):

  • Situation assessment
  • use of barriers
  • Preliminary symptom assessment
  • Life support (CPR)
  • Stopping bleeding
  • Shock management
  • Management of spinal injuries
  • Managing conscious and unconscious choking
  • Using an automatic external defibrillator (AED)
  • Emergency oxygen use

Secondary care skills

Emergency First Response Secondary Care covers injuries or illnesses that are not immediately life-threatening.

Secondary Care (First Aid) patient care skills performed during skills training and development include:

  • Injury Assessment
  • Illness assessment
  • wound dressing
  • Splinting for dislocations and fractures

The Emergency First Response Instructor course also addresses basic first aid for the following emergencies:

Allergic reactions, asthma, bruises, chemical burns, choking (adults, children and infants), CPR (adults, children and infants), wounds, dental injuries, diabetes problems, dislocations and broken bones. electrical injury eye injury first aid box spinal injury Frostbite Heat exhaustion, heat stroke, heart attack, hypothermia, insect stings, jellyfish stings, squid bites, poisoning, ulcers, seizures, snake bites, spider bites, sprains and sprains. To complete the EFR Diving Instructor (EFRI) course, you will need:

  • Complete your self-review of all 4 topics; EFR Program Standards Human Body Systems Medical Emergencies and EFR Program Standards Care for Children
  • Attend all Emergency Response Instructor course presentations (8)
  • Teach at least two primary or secondary care skills from the Primary Emergency Care (CPR), First Aid, or CPR & AED course.
  • Teach at least one skill from the childcare curriculum.
  • During the skills teaching presentation Candidates must identify problems or ineffective techniques and how to properly resolve them using correct coaching methods.
  • Demonstrate good role model techniques for 15 divers (required and optional). Basic and secondary emergency care course skills.
  • Demonstrate the following techniques for modeling good child care skills:
    • Skill 3 – Performing CPR on Children
    • Additional skills – Use an automatic external defibrillator (AED) on children.
    • Skill 4 – Performing CPR on Infants
    • A child choked who was still conscious.
    • The infant choked and was still conscious.
  • Successfully complete the final exam for the Dive Instructor course with a score of 75 percent or higher.

EFR Instructor teaching fee is 8,000 baht.

Details of the EFR Diving Instructor Course, Koh Tao

knowledge development

The Knowledge Development section of EFRI is divided between independent study reviews and a series of classroom Knowledge Development presentations and workshops led by one of our EFR trainers.

You will begin by reviewing your knowledge and watching the EFR DVD.

You will use both teacher guides (Emergency First Response – Primary and Secondary Care and Child Care EFR) to answer the self-reflection questions.

Primary and Secondary Care and EFR Care for children

We recommend that you learn at your own pace before starting your EFR Dive Instructor Course.

Your EFR trainer will review all four topics on Day 1 of your EFRI course before developing additional knowledge or skills.

EFR Instructor knowledge development is included in the class schedule along with skills training. Your presentations and simulations

Skill Development Training – EFR Instructor Course

Skill development training revitalizes teachers and refresh knowledge and skills in first aid and CPR. It also helps develop training and demonstrations to a higher standard of quality as they are essential skills in organizing the EFR training curriculum.

Our EFR trainer will complete a demonstration of all 15 skills, after which we will give you time to practice.

Demonstration skills to be a good role model

We will help guide you and work with you until you are able to master all 15 skills from the EFR primary and secondary care course to set a good example for yourself.

You will demonstrate good and correct techniques for performing CPR on children and infants. and choking of conscious children and infants from child care courses.

Teaching Presentation Workshop – EFR Instructor Course

The EFR Teaching Presentation Workshop helps instructors develop teaching and learning techniques and shape presentations for Emergency First Response courses.

One of our EFR Instructors will assign the candidate’s skills to an instructor to teach from primary care to emergency and secondary care.

At the end of the course we will complete 15 essential skills.

Teacher applicants must provide various role-plays for participants. It offers gentle, positive coaching techniques. But it must be effective and accurate in the demonstration.

EFR Teaching Presentation

Additionally, you will receive EFR study materials such as EFR DVDs and guides to present your teaching.

Your EFR Instructor will assign skill-appropriate problems to instructor candidates. Each person will have a different role. Be a participant/student

Candidates taking on the role of instructor will provide positive coaching to help students improve their understanding. At the same time, it helps create participation and learn about situations within the group.
