Become a Buoyancy Ninja on Koh Tao

There are 2 Peak Performance buoyancy training dives to complete to become a buoyancy skills specialist.

Peak Performance buoyancy training dive #1

After a buoyancy check you will make a perfect, slow controlled descent, adjusting for neutral buoyancy as you approach your planned depth.

After the descent, we will go for a nice relaxing dive using an efficient fin kick. We will ask you to focus on staying neutral and on your breathing and not touching the bottom.

Your instructor will ask you to hover for 60 seconds. Neutrally buoyant with minimal movement, using just your breath control to make minor adjustments.

You will finish the specific skill portion of the dive by adjusting your weights and practicing hovering vertically, horizontally and upside down.

This dive is usually a relaxing, long and shallow dive that is fun.

Peak Performance buoyancy training dive #2

Another long, slow and shallow dive, during training dive # 2 your dive instructor will encourage you to focus more on your breathing.

We work with you to improve your air consumption and make those final minor adjustments to ensure you become a Jedi Buoyancy Specialist.

Your Dive Instructor will be paying particular attention to your finning action, encouraging you to fin using long, slow strokes and gliding after each one, which means you expend less energy during your dive.

Neutral Buoyancy Hovering Skills

You will also practice more hovering during the dive including one hover for at least 90 seconds.

To finish the dive off, we will demonstrate and encourage you to practice how to manoeuver closer to a clear bottom without touching it and then back away using buoyancy.

Congratulations on completion of your course and you are now a PADI Peak Performance buoyancy specialist.

Frequently Asked Questions

What will I learn during the PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy Specialty course?

During the course we will spend a lot of time fine-tuning your buoyancy skills.

By doing that we hope you can move through the water with less effort, reduce your air consumption and make your diving a lot more enjoyable.

Why is Good Buoyancy so Important in Scuba Diving?

The better you are at controlling your buoyancy, the easier and more enjoyable diving will be. Buoyancy is one of the most important skills a scuba diver can master.

If a diver is perfectly streamlined and in trim, they will use less energy to move through the water.
