To enroll on the PADI Boat Diver course you must:
- Be an Open Water diver
- Recent diving experience – we recommend completing a scuba review if you have not dived for 12 months
- 10 years old or older
- Medically fit to dive
1 Day Koh Tao PADI Boat Diver Specialty course
The course consists of two sections:
- Knowledge Development – Instructor led knowledge development session and complete the knowledge review
- Open Water training – 2 training dives

Our Instructors are highly trained and will ensure you receive lots of attention and most importantly, progress at your own pace in a relaxed environment.
During your training we will slowly build your confidence and ability as you develop the skills necessary to become a PADI Boat diver specialist.

PADI Boat Diver Specialty Course Information
Orientation & Knowledge Development
We start the PADI Boat diver specialty course at 09.00 with an Orientation that includes completion of paperwork and the PADI Medical statement.
The Boat Diver specialty course consists of 2 training dives that you will take in the beautiful clear sea around Koh Tao.
There is an Instructor led knowledge development and a 10-question open book knowledge review session to complete that your instructor will review.
The Instructor led knowledge development is conducted during the morning of day 1. Some of the subjects you will cover include:
- Standard boat terminology
- The location and purpose of trip line, gear line, tag line, and current line
- Navigational rules of the road
- Navigational charts and why they are important
- Correct use of a marine radio
- Considerations when selecting a mooring or an anchorage for diving
Koh Tao Boat Diver Specialty Course Training Dives
There are 2 Boat Diver training dives to complete to become a Boat Diver specialist.
Boat Diver training dive #1
During this dive your Instructor will ask you to identify areas of the boat using specific terminology such as bow, stern, port, starboard.
You will also be expected to locate important emergency & safety equipment on board the boat, such as first aid equipment.
Your Instructor will ask you to perform an entry specific to the boat you will be diving off, before the dive and after the dive you will be required to exit the water using a typical exit to the boat you will be diving off.
You will plan your dive, using your dive computer, adhering to safe diving practices and perform a safety stop at 5 metres for 3 minutes at the end of the dive
Boat Diver training dive #2
On your second Boat dive your Instructor will ask you to put together a dive plan that takes into account the type of boat you will be diving off.
You will also need to assess the diving and marine environment you will dive in and demonstrate the ability to apply the knowledge you learn during this course on future boat dives.
Congratulations. You are now a PADI Boat Diver specialist.

What is the cost of the Boat Diver Specialty course on Koh Tao?
The cost of the PADI Boat Diver Specialty is THB 5,000. Included in this price are all course materials, equipment rental (including dive computer), instructor fees, boat trips and insurance.
Food and accommodation are not included. However, you can contact us to find out about accommodation options. We have rooms available at discounted rates when taking a diving course with us.
Ex-students will enjoy a 10% discount on the course price.
How many dives on the Boat Diver Specialty course on Koh Tao?
The PADI Boat Diver Specialty course consists of 2 Open Water dives.
If you have completed the Boat Diving Adventure dive as part of the PADI Advanced Open Water course, then this dive credits towards the Specialty certification and you only need to do 1 more dive to become a certified Boat Specialty Diver.
In that case the course price is THB 3,500 instead of THB 5,000.
Is there a certification for the Boat Diver Specialty course Koh Tao?
When completing the course, you will gain the Boat Specialty Diver certification.
This certification counts towards the PADI Master Scuba Diver rating, the highest certification and black belt in recreational diving.
You have to be a certified (Junior) Open Water diver and 10 years old to enroll in the specialty course.
