This course takes you half way towards achieving you goal of becoming a certified diver and acts as a lifetime referral. This means you can upgrade to full Open Water Diver certification at any time in the future.

To enrol on a PADI Scuba Diver course you must be:

  • 10 years old or older
  • Medically fit to dive
  • Float for 10 minutes

We conduct the course over 1.5 – 2 days.

The course consists of three sections:

  • Knowledge Development – e-learning conducted prior to arrival or Instructor led sessions in our classroom
  • Confined water training – conducted in one of the many beautiful shallow bays around the island or a swimming pool
  • Open Water training – 2 Open Water training dives at amazing Koh Tao dive sites

Day 1:

13.00 – 13.30: Orientation
13.30 – 18.00: Knowledge Development (scuba theory) modules 1-3

PADI Scuba Diver Course Information

Option 1

Classic Scuba Diver course

Orientation & Knowledge Development

We start the classic Scuba Diver course at 13.00 with an Orientation which includes completion of some paperwork and the PADI Medical statement.

The Scuba Diver course knowledge development comprises of 3 sections. Each section has a video, a short knowledge review and a 10 question multiple choice quiz.

Your Instructor will guide you through the knowledge development and an introduction to scuba equipment and dive computers.

The subjects we discuss include the effects of pressure, some basic decompression theory, safety principles and the buddy system.

The Instructor led knowledge development is conducted over half a day.

Option 2

E-learning PADI Scuba Diver course

Orientation & Knowledge Development

Choose the e-learning Scuba Diver course option and spend more time on holiday and NO time in a classroom!

Skip 1 full day of classroom time and spend that on the beach or better still, doing more diving!

We can fit in your Orientation & e-learning Scuba Diver Online Quick Review either the evening before we take you into confined water or the following morning, whatever is easier for you.

Just tell us what you would prefer so we can make the necessary arrangements.

Scuba Diver Course Shallow & Confined Water training

This portion of the training is conducted in shallow water. To be exact, it is water that is deep enough for you to stand and have your head out of the water.

We will start with some easy breathing through the regulator standing and then underwater where you can also practice equalizing.

You Instructor will demonstrate each skill, then you will have time to try, practice and eventually perfect each of the skills.

Some of the skills you will learn to master include:

  • Regulator clearing
  • Mask clearing
  • Alternative Air Source Use
  • Buoyancy control
  • Correct swimming techniques and body position
  • Descents and Ascents techniques
  • Hand signals and underwater communication

PADI Scuba Diver Dives – Explore the Ocean

Now you are feeling comfortable with your underwater skills it is time for the real fun and excitement to begin. It is time to explore the ocean.

You can now put into practice all that new knowledge and skills you have learned when you complete the 2 Open Water (Scuba Diver) training dives from the Open Water Diver course (Dives 1 & 2).

Koh Tao Marine Life & Diversity

Our dives are conducted at a variety of suitable dive sites around Koh Tao including Mango Bay, Japanese Gardens, Twins & Aow Leuk bay and your Instructor will guide you around the dive sites.

We will ask you to repeat some of the skills you have already mastered in confined water and as you become more comfortable with your buoyancy we will continue to work on your body position and swimming technique.

And of course there will be lots of time for you to explore the ocean. Expect to see lots of colourful corals and reef fish such as Angelfish, Bannerfish and Parrotfish.

It is also common when diving Koh Tao to see Stingrays, Anemone fish, a variety of Groupers and the two species of local Sea Turtles.

The first two training dives will have a maximum depth of 12 metres. You will then be certified as a PADI Scuba Diver, which is a limited certification allowing you to dive to 12 metres with a dive professional anywhere in the world.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long is the PADI Scuba Diver course on Koh Tao?

The course takes 1.5 days to complete. We can start the course either in the morning or afternoon on the first day, depending on your travel plans.

You will go through 3 sections of dive theory, you will do a confined water session either in a swimming pool or shallow bay around Koh Tao.

To finish off you will do 2 Open Water dives at two of Koh Tao’s amazing dive sites.

What is the PADI Scuba Diver course Koh Tao?

The PADI Scuba Diver course is a subset of the PADI Open Water course for those who are limited on time but want to become certified divers.

You will do 3 of the 5 dive theory sections of the PADI Open Water course, 3 of the 5 confined water dives in a swimming pool and 2 of the 4 Open Water dives in the ocean.

Do I get a certificate for PADI Scuba Diver course Koh Tao?

Yes you will become a certified diver after completing the PADI Scuba Diver course.

Certified Scuba Divers can dive to 12 metres maximum depth all around the world.

They are not allowed to dive independently and they have to dive under the supervision of a PADI Professional at all times.

The certification is valid for life and divers between the ages of 10 – 14 get the Junior Scuba Diver certification.

What is the cost of the PADI Scuba Diver course Koh Tao?

The cost of the PADI Scuba Diver course is THB 9,300 per person. Included in this price are all course materials, equipment rental (including dive computer), instructor fees, boat trip and insurance.

Food and accommodation are not included. However, you can contact us to find out about accommodation options. We have AC rooms available at discounted rates when taking a diving course with us.

How do I get PADI Open Water after Scuba Diver course Koh Tao?

It is possible to upgrade to become an Open Water diver when holding the PADI Scuba Diver certification.

In this case you have to complete the remaining parts of the Open Water course not completed in the Scuba Diver course.

You will complete 2 sections of dive theory, including the PADI Open Water final exam, 2 confined water dives and 2 Open Water dives in the ocean.

If it has been a while since your Scuba Diver certification, we will refresh your knowledge and dive skills beforehand.
