In addition to the main pinnacles, there is also a lesser-known “secret pinnacle” located approximately a five-minute swim southeast of the main site. Due to the depth and navigation involved, this section should only be explored in favourable conditions by experienced divers, ideally using enriched air Nitrox. Maximum depths in this area can reach approximately 30 metres.

South West Pinnacles is home to an abundance of marine life, with vibrant reef fish found throughout the site. Shark Island is located approximately 300 metres off the south-east coast of Koh Tao. This small, uninhabited rocky island takes its name from its distinctive shape, which resembles the dorsal fin of a shark when viewed from certain angles.

Renowned for its exceptional marine biodiversity, Shark Island offers a vibrant underwater environment rich in both soft and hard coral species. Divers can expect to encounter colourful purple soft corals, whip corals, and large gorgonian sea fans woven throughout the rocky landscape and boulder formations that define the site. The reef gradually slopes down to approximately 18 metres, where the rocky terrain transitions into sandy seabed scattered with additional rock formations, creating ideal habitats for a wide variety of marine life.

While visibility and current conditions at Hin Wong Pinnacles can occasionally be unpredictable, the site can be truly spectacular when conditions are favourable. The reef is densely covered with an impressive variety of coral and marine growth, including delicate lace sea fans, curly wire corals, brain corals, table corals, sponges, tube corals, and vibrant purple soft tree corals. Combined with its rugged topography and rich marine biodiversity, Hin Wong Pinnacles is considered one of Koh Tao’s most visually rewarding dive sites.

Located on the north-east coast of Koh Tao, Hin Wong Pinnacles starts at 10 metres and drops down to a maximum depth of 30 metres on the east-side of the dive site. Although visibility and currents can be a little unpredictable at this location, this dive can be absolutely stunning on a nice day. The dive site is covered in lacy sea fans, curly wire corals, brain and table corals, sponges, tube corals and beautiful soft corals.

Hin Wong Pinnacles is home to Scribbled Filefish, Harlequin Sweetlips, Titan and Yellow Margin Triggerfish and a resident Hawksbill Turtle. Look closely and you will see beautiful nudibranch, small razorfish, tiny pipefish and various species of Stingrays hiding out on the seabed. It is quite common for Hin Wong to have a thermocline even in good conditions, which adds to the eerie feel this dive site often has.
